Irena Sendler - The Warsaw Ghetto's angel
Irena Sendler was born in 1910 and died in 2008, in Warsaw.
When she was 30 years, she had problems in the University because she protest against the Jews' segregation. She was a Polish Roman Catholic nurse who served in the Polish Underground during WW II. She was in the children's section of Zegota, an underground resistance organisation in a zone of Warsaw occuped by the Germans.
She smuggled 2.500 Jewish children out of the Warsaw Ghetto and give them a false identity so that they can be saved of the Holocaust.

The 20th October 1943, her humanity work finished.
The Nazis discovered those activities and tortured her. She was sentenced to death but she could escaped and survive the war.
She was recognized by the State of Irael as a "Righteous among the Nations". Also, she was awarded Poland highest honor for her humanitarian efforts.
